Is Wowcher Actually a Good Deal? An Honest Guide

Wowcher is a daily deals site: hotels, days out, beauty treatments, gadgets and courses, all sold as vouchers at a large stated discount. Some of those deals are excellent. Some are the same price as buying direct. The skill is telling them apart, and it is not hard once you know the patterns.

Where Wowcher Is Genuinely Cheap

• UK hotel breaks. Two-night stays with breakfast and dinner at mid-range hotels are often 30% to 40% below the hotel's own rate, especially midweek.
• Experiences. Helicopter tours, spa days and afternoon teas are sold in bulk to Wowcher and the savings are real.
• Online courses. The 97% off figures are against inflated list prices, but at £9 to £19 the courses are cheap enough not to matter.

Where to Be Careful

• Gadgets and homeware. Search the product name on Amazon or eBay first. Unbranded electronics are frequently the same price or cheaper elsewhere.
• Restaurants. Check the small print for excluded days and whether drinks are included.
• Anything with a 'Wowcher price' but no original price. There is no reference point, so compare yourself.

How Vouchers Work

You buy a voucher, then redeem it with the merchant, often via a booking calendar. Read the redemption window: some are 30 days, some six months. If a voucher is not redeemed in time it becomes Wowcher wallet credit rather than a refund, so do not buy things you are not sure you will use.

Wowcher is a very good place to buy hotel breaks and experiences, and a mediocre place to buy products. Check the merchant's own price, use the extra 10% code, and note the redemption date before you pay.
