Halfords Money-Savers: Tyres, Bikes and Breakdown Cover

Halfords sits in an odd spot: part car shop, part bike shop, part garage. That range is exactly why it rewards a bit of planning. Buy tyres, a bike and breakdown cover separately from three different places and you will spend more than a Halfords customer using the right code for each.

Tyres: Always Buy Two or Four

Halfords runs a standing tyre multi-buy: around 10% off when you buy two or three selected tyres and 15% off four or more. The codes change name each season (ROADREADY, NEWTREAD and similar) and we keep the current one on the Halfords voucher page. Fitting is included at Halfords Autocentres, which is the other saving: a fast-fit chain will charge £15 to £20 a tyre to fit.

Breakdown Cover

Halfords sells its own breakdown cover, underwritten by a major provider, and discounts it heavily in January (30% off has been a regular). It covers the car and, unusually, bicycles. Compare it against your current renewal quote; renewals from the big two providers routinely rise 20% a year.

Bikes and Cycle to Work

• Halfords is the largest Cycle to Work provider in the UK. Through a participating employer, a bike and accessories are bought from pre-tax salary, saving 25% to 40%.
• Bike prices drop in September and October when new model years arrive.
• The free bike check at any store is a genuine offer and a good way to catch worn brake pads early.

Motoring Club

The free tier of the Halfords Motoring Club gives a free MOT check and discounts on servicing. The Premium tier costs around £50 a year and includes a free MOT, 10% off most products and cheaper servicing. If you MOT one car a year the premium tier roughly breaks even before you buy anything.

Payday Codes

Halfords regularly issues an extra 10% off motoring, technology, tools and child travel around the end of the month. If you are buying a child car seat or a roof box, waiting for that window is worth £20 to £40.
